Import Duty From China to USA Calculator
Estimate import duty from China to the USA, including HTS duty, Section 301, MPF, HMF, freight, and landed cost.
China-to-USA duty is a stacked calculation
For China-origin goods, import duty is rarely just the base HTS rate. Many products also face Section 301 additional duties, and every formal entry can include MPF. Ocean shipments may add HMF.
Use the TariffCheck calculator to estimate the full stack for your product and shipment value.
China import duty checklist
| Step | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Find the HTS code | Determines the base duty rate |
| Confirm China origin | Section 301 follows origin, not shipping route |
| Check Section 301 | Adds a China-specific duty layer where applicable |
| Add MPF | Common formal-entry CBP fee |
| Add HMF | Applies to covered ocean cargo |
| Add freight and broker cost | Needed for landed cost |
Example structure
A $10,000 China-origin shipment might have:
- Base HTS duty
- Section 301 additional duty
- MPF
- HMF if ocean cargo
- Broker, bond, and delivery costs
The exact rate depends on the product classification. Do not use one flat China tariff percentage for every product.
Does shipping through another country avoid China tariffs?
Usually no. US customs duty follows country of origin. Routing Chinese-origin goods through another country does not remove Section 301 unless substantial transformation changes origin.
